Mahindra Racing, the motor sports division of India’s Mahindra Group, has officially unveiled its Formula E race car. This represents the country’s first entry in the electric race car series. Featuring a lightweight carbon fiber and aluminum monocoque, the race car is powered by a 270 hp electric motor that enables a top speed of 140 mph and 0-62 mph (100 km/h) acceleration in 2.9 seconds.
Racing has historically played an important part in proving advanced technologies and serving as a gateway to their use on the highway. The Formula E Championship series that begins this coming September will see electric race cars at various venues around the world including city centers in Angeles, London, and Beijing. Ten races are scheduled the first season.
